Bounded on the South by Saranac Rd.

Bounded on the West by E. 136th St.

Bounded on the East by E. 200th St.


This neighborhood was originally part of East Cleveland and Euclid Townships.


This neighborhood was originally settled in 1812.  It was well-known for its vineyards.  The Collinwood neighborhood was originally called Collamer.  The Collinwood North Shore neighborhood was home to Euclid Beach Amusement Park which opened in 1894 and closed in the 1960's.   It also was the location of a major switching station for the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad.  The Collinwood Railroad Yards were located here as well.  Collinwood was also the home to Collinwood School which burned in 1908, resulting in the loss of 174 lives.  The Collinwood neighborhood was home to Slovenians, Irish and Italians primarily.  The major shopping area was located at "Five Points", at the intersection of E. 152nd St. and St Clair and Ivanhoe.  It is also home to Villa Angela, founded in 1870, and St. Joseph Seminary founded in 1876.  Also located here was the Cunningham Sanitarium, an oxygen therapy facility.

 

COLLINWOOD SOUTH

Bounded on the North by Saranac Rd.

Bounded on the South by Woodworth

Bounded on the West by E. 131st

Bounded on the East by Nottingham Rd.

South Collinwood was part of the Villages of Collinwood and Nottingham.  They were annexed to the City of Cleveland in 1910 and 1912.  This area was first settled in 1812.  It was known for its vineyards and rail yards as well as the Fisher Body Company which opened in 1921.    Many Italian immigrants moved to the area in the early 1900's.
