Olmsted Township, when originally surveyed, was known as Township 6 in Range 15 of the Connecticut New Western Reserve. Established in 1814 with the first settlement, the governmental body was formed in 1827. Norris Falls, later named Olmsted Falls was incorporated in the center of the township, but the rest of the township is still functioning today (2013).
