The second year of studies in architecture emphasizes knowledge and skills related to building and construction, while introducing the ideas of expression and aesthetics. My approach is to make heavy use of BIM and other digital methods to leverage students' abilities and introduce knowledge in its most formalized representation: software. Learning to use BIM software is learning to the vocabulary, taxonomy, patterns, and processes of architecture.
A series of lectures will present the knowledge content that students are expected to master. A series of projects enables students to explore ideas through experiments and demonstrate that they can apply their knowledge. A learning portfolio is the key graded product and clearly depicts what a student has learned.
