Pete Rainey and Gayle Buresh made a presentation to the fourth grade students at Locust Grove Elementary School. Titled “The Civil War in Our Backyard,” it gave the students a dramatic look at history where they live.
The CWSG continues to work with the Orange County School System in developing a historic mapping project using the system’s GPS equipment.
In 2013, Pete Rainey and Josef Rokus judged a poster contest for the Locust Grove Elementary School fourth grade students. Plans are being finalized for CWSGI to sponsor a 2014 History Day for students of Orange County on May 3, 2014, the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Wilderness.
CWSG is also working with the school system in the development of a series of historical video podcasts, known as Vodcasts, that will be made by the students and available for distribution to other schools and organizations over the Internet.
