The Trends of the Eighties Multimedia Project
Your team will create a short multimedia project to show to the class, preferably a PowerPoint slideshow, or a web page.
Include at least two of the following media:
· Images from the period
· Audio clips from the period
· Short movie clips from the period
· Brief text descriptions and identifiers
Your multimedia project should cover the following:
Bullmoose
One or more of the important social trends of the 1980s, including images, video clips, or audio clips for this portion. Examples might include the rise of the “yuppies,” the women’s movement, the rise of televangelists such as the “Moral Majority,” etc.
Copperheads
One or more of the important economic trends of the 1980s, including images, video clips, audio clips, detailed charts/tables, etc. Examples might include the rise of “trickle-down” economic theory, the financial exuberance of the 80s, the foundations of the 80s boom, etc.
Mugwumps
One or more of the important political trends of the 1980s, including images, video clips, audio clips, testimony, etc. Examples might include the revival of the Cold War, the Reagan administration, the Iranian Revolution, etc.
Scalawags
One or more of the important cultural trends of the 1980s, including images, video clips, audio clips, or cool dance moves, etc. Examples include the rise of MTV, changes in popular music, fashion, or popular piety.
Goo Goos
You will investigate one of the most significant events of the 1980s: the collapse of communism. Using images, video clips, audio clips, testimony, etc. you will investigate why Communism collapsed, and what impact that has had on world history.
Bucktails
You will investigate two of the most significant events of the 1980s: the two epidemics--AIDS and crack cocaine. Using images, video clips, audio clips, testimony, etc. you will determine where did these “epidemics” came from, and what has been the consequences of them.
We will begin the process of organizing the project in class. It will be necessary to communicate outside of class via telephone and e-mail in order to properly coordinate the script, images, presentation organization, etc.
