Side events are a variety of Pokemon-based activities that you can play and earn tickets that can be redeemed at the Prize Wall (think of Chuck E. Cheese where you buy tokens to play games and get prize tickets depending on how well you do). Side events can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike. It's a great way to experience a Pokemon event without the stress of competing in an intense tournament! In fact, it's a great way to relieve stress, try out different Pokemon activities (that you can learn and also play at home or at your local League!), and make new friends in the process!
The Prize Wall is stocked with a wide array of Pokemon products - from various collection boxes to booster packs, tins, plushies, playmats, hats, Japanese Pokemon products, Funko POP! collectibles, and more! To earn a Prize Wall ticket, simply play in a Side Event. The Judge for your event will let you know how you can win a ticket.
Side events include:
4 or 8-person pods for TCG (Standard, Expanded, or Unlimited Format), VG, or Pokemon Go PvP battles.
Pack battles: Receive a Pokemon booster pack, build a 10-card deck, and play in an elimination-style battle.
Alternative Play Formats: Raid Format, Ditto Draft, Gym Leader Challenge, etc.
Build & Battle: like a Prerelease, build a 40-card deck and play in a short 3-round tourney.
In order to play a Side Event, you need to purchase a Side Event ticket:
The cost is $5 for most activities
For Build-and-Battle Kits, which are either Prerelease Kits or a bundle of booster packs. Price will vary depending on the Pokemon set and the type of kit that is available (between $20 - $30).

2 players will start the event with 4 packs on the table in between them. The winner of this match will become the first KING. These 4 packs will be added to the KING’s stack.
The next player, the CHALLENGER, waiting to play will sit down with 2 packs and play the current KING.
Should the KING win, the 2 packs from the CHALLENGER’s side of the Table will be added to the KING’s stack.
Should the CHALLENGER win, the current KING will be dethroned and the CHALLENGER will become KING. 2 packs will be taken out of the current KING’s stack and added to the new KING’s stack. What remains will be the outgoing KING’s winning. The CHALLENGER's 2 packs and the outgoing KING’s 2 packs will start a new KING’s stack of 4 packs.
Should the current KING wish to not continue playing and vacate the throne, prior to starting a new game, they will walk away with the current KING’s stack minus 1 pack, and 2 new players will be selected to start the process to crown a new king with 1 extra pack starting the new KING’s stack.
CURRENT KING CAN CHANGE DECKS PROVIDED IT IS DONE QUICKLY (Ready-made replacement)
CHALLENGER DECIDES WHO GOES FIRST
WIN 5 IN A ROW, WIN A POKEMON PLAYMAT
Formats from the Alternative Play Handbook:
Gym Leader Challenge (GLC)
Team Format
Raid Format
Ditto Format
Here are the general guidelines to keep in mind for all the holiday-themed tournaments:
40 card deck (just like pre-releases)
No limit format - this means ALL cards are legal - yes, even Base set to the latest Sun and Moon that just came out. Use your creativity and build your dream deck without any limits. No proxies - all cards must be authentic Pokemon cards (but Championship cards are OK)
Entry fee: $5
Prizes will be based on the number of registered players.
Registration: first half hour of League
First round should start shortly after reg ends
If there are enough video gamers, we can also offer up a VG version of the tournament.
Build a Christmas-themed Pokemon deck to play in the Christmas tournament! GLC rules apply for this tournament! Let your creativity guide you! What Pokemon can you use? Well, Christmas colors are red and green - so think about grass and fire types! Water types would work as well. A Charizard-Sceptile deck could be fun! Or how about Venasaur-Entei? You could include Fairy types like Klefki. And perhaps add in a Lightning tech like Raikou. BUT, NO rule box Pokémon allowed! That means no EX, GX, V, or ex (two prize card) Pokémon.
Build an Easter-themed Pokemon deck to play in the Easter tournament! What Pokemon can you use? Well, Easter colors are pink and soft pastel colors (Spring-like colors work too) - so how about normal types like bunneary, jigglypuff, clefairy? Grass, lightning and fairy types work well too! How about a Rainbow Road deck?
Build a Halloween-themed Pokemon deck to play in the Halloween tournament! What Pokémon can you use? The easy answer includes Ghost, Psychic, Poison, and Dark types. Perhaps a Gengar-Crobat deck? Spiritomb anyone? A dark Roaring Moon ex and Darkrai VSTAR combo?
