The coordinator is responsible for directing new volunteers to participate in the count by assigning them to areas where they are most needed and connecting them with the appropriate Area Leader. The Area Coordinator also collaborates with the club traditional media chair for news and/or radio interviews (listen to Josh's 2023 talk @ https://cortacatoday.com/news/258852-025520-ithaca-birders-to-collect-data-on-monday/.)
The Area Coordinator communicates with participants before, during, and after the count to provide updates, answer questions, and share results.
Specifically, the Area Coordinator:
Confirms with Area Leaders in late October if they will again lead their area (including feeder counters)
Provides updates for the club website and November newsletter
Check back in around Mid-December to ensure each Area Leader has enough volunteers for coverage, is aware of the count protocols (e.g. what data to collect, recording hours & miles)
