Meeting Essentials Message from SM Roberts

  Good Day Scouts,

In order to meet our commitment to always “Be Prepared” there are certain items you should bring to each meeting.  These items include yourScout handbook, a writing utensil (pen or pencil), paper (preferable a note pad of some kind), rope (the shorter length of para-cord is fine), a compass, flashlight (handheld or headlamp), individual first aid kit, pocket knife (must have totem chit with you), matches (must have fireman chit with you), fire starters, and a rain poncho.  How you carry them is up to you, but I suggest getting an old small back pack to carry your “Meeting Essentials” around in.

Your Meeting Essentials may include any additional items you think might be needed, such as water, jacket or sweat shirt (can be worn anytime other than flag ceremonies), Scout hat, sun protection, trail food, map, etcetera...  However, your essentials may not include restricted items such as electronic game machines, fireworks, straight knives or any other items restricted by the Boy Scouts of America or by law.

Your Meeting Essentials are not in addition to your ten essentials required for hikes and camping.  In other words, you may use the items you already have to meet this requirement and switch them to your larger pack when needed.  Your Meeting Essentials should be with you at all weekly meetings and any other outings you attend.  Examples of other outings include, but are not limited to, Eagle projects, merit badge classes and any other Scout related activities where you may need the essentials.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have,

SM Roberts
