Before starting on construction, all members of your group must get a perfect score on the safety quiz. Review the following information in detail prior to taking the safety quiz.
Always wear goggles - sawdust isn't good for the eyes.
Something happens - let me know about it, immediately.
Only use power tools when my eyes are on you and I'm within arms reach of you.
Let me know if the power tools are malfunctioning or need refills (nail gun).
Always be aware of the location of the electrical cord and the relationship to the moving blade and the lab tables...you don't want the blade to cut the lab table or the electrical cord. Unplug the cord when not in use.
Hoodie strings & long hair must be pulled back/tucked in.
No horseplay - treat the power tools as though they are always plugged in and operational. Never point the nail gun towards anyone, even if the battery isn't plugged in or your finger is on the trigger. In addition to these written safety precautions, be sure you have listened to my spiel on how to operate the power tools safely.
The ThatQuiz code for each of the four classes is listed below.
Core 1: 3VKV1K6K
Core 2: 7OKUGLEQ, YHR4NVVS
Core 3: 7ZA4SRIJ, 77BMYSFP, I5FSATO5, UCCFD7CP
Core 4: WSDVR7IQ, 4YFHP7NN, BBWHK6W2, ROF1DJ9U
Step 1: Plywood Cube Sides - Using a pencil and a yard stick or tape measure, measure out five 2 foot x 2 foot panels using plywood. Then use the jig-saw to cut along the lines.
Step 2: 2x4's - Measure and mark a 2"x4" every 24 inches. The boards are 8 feet long, so you should have three marks. Then use the circular saw to cut through the 2"x4" board, at each of your marks. Now grab another 2"x4" and repeat the process
*At this point you should have 5 panels of plywood, each measuring 2 feet x 2 feet. You should also have 8 sections of 2"x4" that are each 2 feet long. Be sure you label each piece of wood with all groups members names and core #.
Step 3: While wearing gloves, sand each piece of wood. It should be very smooth.
Step 4: Choose a color of wood stain. Stain the wood. You must be wearing gloves and make sure you don't make an unnecessary mess. Hopefully the weather is nice and we can do this outside.
Step 5: Put the plywood to the side - you won't need it for this step. Your goal is to create an "L" shape with two sections of the 2"x4." First, line up 2 pieces of 2" x 4" like this:
Then, with the nail gun in the downward position, nail the two pieces of 2"x4" together. First, on the two ends, then in the middle, then add the last two nails between the middle & outside nails. The two red circles shown here are where two of the five nails should go.
Repeat this for the remaining 6 pieces of 2"x4"
Pictured below are 2 of the 4 "L" shapes that you need.
