Updated!
Have just got an update in from Alan to add to some photos I took a wee while ago.
October 1st 2012
I hadn't intended to go as far as I have with this bike. But thats what happens when you start taking parts off. One bit leads to another and before you know it there's just a frame! The great thing about an alloy frame is how easy it is to clean up. No painting required.
I haven't touched the engine at this stage, concentrating on suspension, brakes, and the painting parts as they come off. The rear brake and one front brake/anti-dive unit have been completed, one to go. Front legs will be ready for painting next. Seals looked OK but may replace them anyway while the forks are apart. Wheels look like they will tidy up OK, so may get away without the cost of powder-coating. I did manage to find the elusive LH side cover, but CourierPost have managed to loose it! I will be disapointed if they don't find it as it was in the Yellow/blue colour scheme, which is the colour I want to paint the bike and would have be helpful to get the correct colour match.
This is going to be a rolling post that follows Sir Als trials and tribulations with his latest aquasition; a GSXR400. Here is his first instalement.
The story of the bike as I understand it (without further research) is that it was being delivered to the dump when a caring soul stepped in and saved it. It then sat in the rear of a panelbeaters premises unused for many years. I think the reason it was being discarded was that the LH plug hole thread had been stripped. That aside, that the bike seems to be sound. Only part missing is the LH side cover. I have got the engine running and it sounds sweet, just a little chuffing from the LH plug. No smoke or oil or bits of metal firing out of the pipe! Can't wait to get it on the road.
