Beginnings
Paul de Lautour began the group in the early nineties along with some other like minded reprobates. He started restoring his bikes in the early eighties with a very special interest in Kawasaki triples. He was one of the original members of the New Zealand Kawasaki Triples Club that eventually became a part of the VJMC in the early nineties. This is probably why we have a slight bent towards the two strokes and especially the Kawasaki variety. His restorations are a credit to his patience and standard of workmanship and are a yardstick to judge your own efforts. This also means he is a font of knowledge when it comes to restoring and keeping a Japanese Classic on the road.

It is interesting to note that Ross and Judy Charlton who provided much of the foundation for the setting up of the VJMC along with Paul and others is now resident in the area. They continue to support the VJMC movement through organising the National and Gumboot VJMC rallies.
