Well here it is in all it's glory! finished at last - at least as far as I'm taking it. 1984 GSXR - no engine size was included in the name for the first year model as it was the first if the breed - just GSX-R.
It's now a naked - some might like it, and some already seem to loath it. I had intended to put the front fairing on, but when putting it back together I really liked the look of the aluminium frame & engine being on view so that is how it has stayed. Even made a headlight surround out of an old front fairing that was beyond repair. This combined with some vinyl 'carbon-fibre' has given the bike it it's own style. Yellow plastics and tank add to the look.
We have covered about 1500km since VIN / rego / WoF, and the Gixxer runs well. Oil consumption is sorted with the change to mineral oil. Fuel economy is good with excellent range, and it's a comfortable bike. Best feature is the handling, followed closely by the exhaust note. Brakes are very good too with good feel. It's actually quite a nice bike to ride and has a enough weight to feel planted and is stable in cross winds.
Not sure if it is going to be a long term resident in the garage yet. It would make a good all-rounder, and not having any chrome or spoke wheels means it would likely get used on many of the winter rides. Ventura even make a pack-rack for it, so there is potential as a VJMC rally bike. That'll upset the purists!
