THE PRINCESS AND THE THIEF A Fantasy for Narrator and Percussion Ensemble

by Royal V. Jones, Jr. (1923-2001)

With an engaging and humorous story line, this work follows the adventures of Sandy as he plots to steal the jewel of Tamby, a beautiful princess. Scored for narrator and three percussionists playing 24 instruments, this piece is perfect for a "Pops" or "Children's" concert. It was written to show that percussion instruments and their players can do more than just support the band or orchestra. The narrator can be a member of the ensemble or, better yet, have a local politician, school principal, or other dignitary deliver the narration. It will be a hit for sure. The three percussion parts can be easily divided so that more instrumentalists may parts. Your audiences will really enjoy this clever and easy to follow story in addition to being amazed at the number of instruments being played.

A descriptive flyer and PDF of the instrument list and the first two pages of the score are available for download below.

The music with narration is fully notated on a "playing score". The narrator can control the flow of the story working with the musicians.

A set of 4 playing scores is $30.00. For larger percussion ensembles, additional scores are available at a discounted price. Order Now
