This is a check-list when I need to migrate to another desktop.
New desktop needs installation of openssh, easy to do with Ubuntu Software Center
FileZilla is the preferred tools to do the work, first add tasks to queues. Connect with SFTP protocol. FTP may have problem with Chinese file name (not sure).
Use "Disk Usage Analyzer" to plan transmission size.
- Files under home
- Thunderbird migration:
- profile located under ~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default
- backup:
- close thunderbird
- copy the profile folder (xxxxxxxx.default)
- restore to different location
- close thunderbird
- use Profile Manager to create a new profile, exit (but if just installed Thunderbird on a new computer, the default can be used without creating a new one)
- open backup and copy entire contents to the new profile folder, overwriting existing files
- start thunderbird
- So, basically, just copy & paste
- Virtual Machines, see topic in this site
- Shotwell photo manager settings (rating of pictures) - have to export to folder
- Eclipse workspace settings
- dot ssh folder
