S3

• Access through Internet API, not recommended to be mounted as a FS
• Eleven 9's durability, the most durable
• Cheapest of the three (usually)
  • Complex calculation model
• Accessible anywhere
• Use for

EBS (EC2 instance block storage device)

• Can be accessed only by single EC2 instance
• "20 times more reliable than normal hard disks" but failure still happened before (Redundant)
• Cannot withstand AZ failure without point-in time EBS Snapshots (meaning not replicated beyond AZ)
• Cost
  • per/GB storage allocation per month
  • IPOS
  • Snapshots

EFS (network storage)

• Can be accessed concurrently by multiple EC2 instances (shared network storage)
• Can be less performance than EBS
• Can survive one AZ failure
• Highly durable but no public SLA
• 10x more expensive then EBS
