BEPSII at COP29 in Baku (Azerbaijan), 11 November - 22 November 2024
Jacqueline Stefels and Letizia Tedesco, BEPSII chairs, have brought BEPSII again at COP this year with three side events during the first week of COP29. These events aimed to rise awareness of the importance of sea-ice biogeochemistry and ecosystem for climate, nature, and people.
During the second week of COP29, Letizia and Jacqueline initiated the issuing of the open letter "An SOS from the poles to world leaders at COP29" given the insufficient progress observed in ongoing negotiations. Take a look at the dedicated page!

On 14 November 2024 at 1 pm (UTC/GMT+4) at the Cryosphere Pavilion, our co-chair Jacqueline Stefels talked about the relevance of sea-ice ecosystem and biogeochemistry for the functioning of the Southern Ocean food web.
On 15 November 2024 at 1 pm (UTC/GMT +4) at the Cryosphere Pavilion, BEPSII organized a dedicated BEPSII session with co-chair Jacqueline Stefels, moderated by co-chair Letizia Tedesco.
