BEPSII Exchange Program Award 2024

As part of their efforts to support ECRs, BEPSII launched an ECR travel award program in 2021 to support early-career scientists in research collaborations (http://tinyurl.com/r3tnswzy), which is again offered in 2024

Motivated by a realization that the COVID-19 pandemic had severely hobbled network-building for early-career scientists, the program supported short visits between institutions to learn new techniques, develop joint experiments, and exchange knowledge that would not be possible without the expertise of their host. In 2021, in total six ECRs were funded through CLiC, SOLAS, and SCAR.

BEPSII has again funding available to support early career scientists in research collaborations and exchanges related to biogeochemistry of sea-ice and the polar environment. We are particularly interested in supporting short visits between institutions but will also consider other relevant collaboration activities (examples of some past awards can be found here).

The number of grants awarded and the amount of money given in each grant will depend on the number and quality of the applications received. Previous grants ranged between €1000 and €2500.

To apply, please submit a proposal that is no longer than 2 pages and includes your name, current affiliation, and career stage, as well as:

Please send your application, along with any other relevant documents (e.g., your CV, support letters, etc.), to Eeva Eronen-Rasimus (eeva.eronen-rasimus@helsinki.fi) and Pat Wongpan (pat.wongpan@utas.edu.au) by 31 March, 2024.

The proposals will be evaluated by the BEPSII steering committee, and we expect to decide which proposals to fund by the end of April. Questions can be addressed to Eeva, Pat, and/or Lisa Miller (lisa.miller@dfo-mpo.gc.ca).
