Biography:
Born 22 December 1878, his father was John Henry Barker of Wingate Street (Old Windsor Road). Before he enlisted in January 1916, he worked as a school teacher. On 10 June 1918, he was involved in a bicycle accident, when the front mudguard came off, jamming the wheel and throwing him off.
Barker was still a school teacher, living in Wingate Street, in the late 1920s. By 1935, he had retire to Awakino Pt, Dargaville, then reurned to Avondale, living at Roberton Road as a salesman by 1938. After his wife died in 1943, he lived at Laingholm. He died in 1956 and is buried beside his wife Louisa Ellingham at Waikumete Cemetery.
