Biography:

Born Auckland 2 May 1894. On enlistment, Atkinson lived with his father J Frederick Atkinson on Blake Street (St Judes), Avondale, and worked as a school teacher for the Auckland Education Board when he enlisted in August 1915. He was affected during the influenza epidemic while still in France, November 1918. Atkinson was evacuated to England, and admitted into first a general hospital, then military hospital at Aldershot. He was discharged 11 April 1919. He died 21 January 1971, living with his wife at Clovelly Road, Bucklands Beach. (military file)
