2018 Battlefield Tour post 04

2018 France/ Belgium Trip Post 04

From Vimy the next on the itinerary was to be have been the Arras Flying Memorial to honour an ex DLOY officer. 2 Lt James Gerald Fair, attached to 27 Sqn Royal Flying Corps was killed in action on 19 March 1917 aged 19. James who came from Lytham St. Annes has no known grave. RIP.

They must have known we were coming because in the city centre the Gendarmes had roadblocks on all the access roads to the memorial. We, therefore, continued onto our next visit, the Arras Memorial will have to wait for another day.
