A message from Chairman Marcel Groen:
Now is the time to make a difference
Hello Democrats:
This morning we awoke to this story in the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Democratic lead in registered Montco voters widens." Yes, that's right, in the middle of a bad economy and on the heels of a 2010 election that broke heavily for the Republicans (everywhere but in Montgomery County, I would point out), Democrats in Montgomery County continue to increase their numbers, and now outnumber Republicans by more than 35,000 voters.
This is great news, unless...
...we don't get those voters out in greater numbers than the Republicans.
In 2011, we stand on the verge of making history by winning a majority on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, and we have the ticket to do just that headed by Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards. With Josh and Leslie leading the way we could put two Democratic judges on the county bench, win more county row offices and win a lot of seats on municipal boards and councils.
But, that won't happen magically. In the Inquirer article the county Republican chairman says, "Registrations don't vote. People vote. People will register one way or the other for a lot of different reasons. What matters are the polls, and voters have historically come out to support us."
He may be whistling past the graveyard, but he is counting on the old Democratic party. He is counting on overconfidence. He is counting on something that doesn't exist anymore.
Today's Montgomery County Democrat is energized...is organized...is aware of the importance of an extraordinary, coordinated field campaign pulling together volunteers from all over the county to make sure the quality of our candidate is equaled by the quality of our organization.
That's why we need you. You can start by signing up to volunteer for the Shapiro/Richards campaign, and by attending the Shapiro/Richards Power Breakfast & Leadership Training session - a training and campaign strategy session for volunteer leaders. It will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. at AFSCME HQ, 3031 Walton Road, Building C, Plymouth Meeting. Yes, that's the same place as the monthly MCDC Executive Committee meetings.

Let's not be like the Number One seeds in the NCAA tournament. Let's live up to our ranking. Let's carry our banner proudly. Let's go to work.
Sincerely,
Marcel Groen
MCDC Chairman
