A link on Daily KOS caused me pause. You can see it here at http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/11/4/917358/-Fighting-BackCall-to-Action where the author, who goes under the moniker of “more change please” says: “Yesterday I was depressed about the election. Today I'm fighting back. The 2012 election cycle begins today and there are concrete things we can do each and every day to promote our agenda between now and then. As candidate Obama said, "we are the people we've been waiting for" and we need to get busy.”
He’s right. We have to get over the results of what Tuesday wrought and move on. We need to fight the efforts that are going to be made by the new Speaker by doing what we can to educate the voters about why health care should not be repealed, why Wall Street Reform was needed, and why Social Security should not be privatized.
The only way to fight back is to get involved; write letters to the editor, talk to your neighbors, post things on Facebook, get involved, etc. By the time the next election rolls around in 2012 people will be less angry, more informed, and better able to make a common sense decision.
We can start by working on our organization during the next election cycle. As you know, this election coming up will be entirely local – county, municipal, district justice, and school. The organization we get into place now will help for 2012 when all eyes will be open to the race everyone seems to care about, and the elections down the road. It will not happen overnight, but slowly over time we will increase our voter turnout and empower our voters.
