Greetings Area 11
Wow, what a year it was! 2011 elections turned the county around to a Democratic majority for the first time in history. We added two more Democratic judges to the county Bench, took majority in East Norriton, got a step closer in West Norriton, maintained majority in Norristown, won all our school board seats, and won a whole bunch of seats elsewhere. What a year to be a Democrat in Montgomery County!
As you know, 2012 is a presidential election and we have our work cut out for us. The GOP is hot to trot to win the White House and there is a wave of conservatism and diminished level enthusiasm for our president. Whoever the opposition it could be a close race. In Area 11, the GOP expected us to take the county seats, but they are going to be fighting back elsewhere. They already tried to gerrymander seats to make sure they maintain their wins and have carved us up like a Thanksgiving turkey. We have three congressional candidates that are going to be vying for us and several state reps as well. We are going to be busy this year, to say the least.
The Primary Election comes early – on April 24th this year. That means that nominating petitions start on January 24th, which is right around the corner. As usual, if you are able to plan your vacations, please set aside April 24th and November 7th to make sure you can give coverage at the polls. We want to make sure that the candidates can depend on Area 11 for support!
Our first meeting is Wednesday, January 11, 2012 and will be held at Norristown Municipal Hall235 E Airy St, at 7pm. As usual, please enter on the ground floor and come up through the police department. I hope I will see you all as we ring in the New Year and get down to business for 2012.
Democratically yours,
Olivia
