Lumley Thicks

The hamlet of Lumley Thicks lies approximately one mile south west of Bournmoor. Few people today realise that it is actually a very old settlement which dates back to at least the mid-18th century, as the parish registers testify - see below. The oldest map found to date is from 1768 - see below.

On the above three old maps, part of what is now the B1284 road was then the Lumley branch of the Lambton Railway. Access to Lumley Thicks from the Chester-Le-Street direction was by a straight access road visible on each of the old maps on the left-hand-side. The line of this old road can still be seen in the landscape today:
