Dunsfold Aerodrome, near Cranleigh in Surrey, was built in 1942 by Canadian military engineers. The airfield played a vital role in World War 2 and subsequently for testing aircraft including the Harrier jump-jet. Now the site has become Dunsfold Park and outline planning permission was granted in 2018 to develop a new Garden Village with 1,800 or more houses. Reg Day, who died in 2019 at the age of 96, was an aircraft mechanic who worked at the airfield in the wartime years. His museum devoted to life at Dunsfold Aerodrome during WW2 is open to visitors by appointment (more information here).
A number of historic aircraft are now at Dunsfold Park, including a VC10 which was the last of its type to be built at Brooklands and three Boeing 747 jumbo jets, the last of which landed in December 2020.
The pictures contributed by Nick Bale show the VC10 and a map of the D-Day operations in 1944, displayed in the Reg Day Museum.
