Prior to the Civil War, there was only one railroad in Florida. David Levy Yulee completed the Florida Railroad the ran from Fernandina to Ceder Key. It lasted only as short period before the Civil War began in 1861. The last train out of Fernandina was being bombarded by Union cannon, and had Yulee on it.
After the war, many railroads were built to serve local needs. The first railroad that came to Brooksville was the Florida Southern Railroad in September 1885. The articles in this category are about many of the railroads that were built in Florida. The story ends with the Hernando Historical Museum Association purchasing the 1885 Train Depot in 1991 from the CSX Corporation .
