Hotels in St. Augustine
Hotel Ponce de Leon
This was the first hotel that Henry Flagler built, and it opened in 1888. Now this hotel is the Flagler Collage.
The Hotel Ponce de León was innovative for its time and serves as a reminder of his enterprise, diligence, and commitment to high standards.
Hotel Alcazar
This was a hotel as well as a casino; a place for recreation and amusement in 1889.
Flagler had purchased his first parcel of land for development, setting in motion a plan to remake the Ancient City as a luxury winter resort for wealthy East Coast tourists. The Alcazar was initially conceived as an entertainment annex for the Ponce de Leon, but the design was soon revised and expanded to create an independent hotel.
Hotel Cordova
This is the smallest of all three hotels in St. Augustine and is located in the same square as the other two hotels.
Henry Flagler bought this hotel in 1888 and changed its name from Hotel Casa Monica to Hotel Cordova. The great depression forced this hotel to close in 1932. Now this hotel is called the Hotel Casa Monica and is active.

Hotel Continental
This hotel was completed in 1901. The hotel opened in late March and closed in August each year, serving the summer visitors.
A summer resort, the Continental was a massive colonial yellow building with signature green blinds. For guests’ enjoyment, there was a 9-hole golf course, a dance pavilion, a fishing pier, tennis courts, and a riding stable. There was a train depot on the west side of the hotel.

Hotel Ormond
After Henry Flagler finished building railroads and hotels in St. Augustine he went South to Ormond Beach.
He took this hotel over in 1890. The hotel attracted enthusiasts of the world’s first automobile races nearby. John D. Rockefeller built a house, the Casements, just across the street.
Hotels in Palm Beach
Hotel Royal Poinciana
This hotel opened in 1894 with all the amenities of today’s modern resorts, including indoor plumbing, electricity, and a telephone system.
The first guests were American most prominent citizens. It was the World’s largest hotel and wooden structure in 1905. The hotel was torn down in 1936.
The Breakers Hotel
This was the second hotel of Mr. Flagler's in Palm Beach. It was called the Palm Beach Inn and got changed to The Breakers when Mr. Flagler bought and enlarged it in 1901.
It was to be an overflow hotel, but since it was on the beach it was a very popular hotel. In 1903 and 1925 fires destroyed the hotel. The hotel took 11 months to rebuild and was opened to the public in 1926.

Hotel Royal Palm
Henry Flagler extended his railroads farther south to Fort Dallas after the devastating freeze in Palm Beach.
The residents wanted to rename the town after Henry Flagler, but he said no and named it after an Indian name for the local river- Miami. The hotel is similar to the Royal Poinciana and opened in 1897 and became the leading resort in Miami.
