Student at Sreenidhi 2020-2021
My name is Yash Satwalekar and I am excited to share my personal project with you. My project has three facets to it.
The first facet is my hobby of birding which I have been doing since I was 8 years old. Birding involves going into nature and spotting different species of birds and identifying them. I used to head out every weekend with a pair of binoculars to different spots around Hyderabad.
My interest moved on to photographing the birds I spotted, which brings me to the 2nd facet of my project, photography.
Photography of birds is very challenging because many times you can see the bird but it flies away before you get to click it. More frustrating is that sometimes the lighting is too poor to get a good quality shot as typically birding happens early morning, just after sunrise, or in the evening around sunset.
For me, the biggest disappointment is after thinking you have got the perfect shot you check your pic to see that it is blurred or out of focus and the pursuit of the bird begins all over again! As I spent more and more time in the pursuit of my fair feathered friends I learned that many of the birds are migratory visitors to Hyderabad. And that brings me to the third facet of my project, that is the migration pattern of birds and its importance. I saw first hand how irresponsible urbanization was destroying the natural habitat of migratory birds.
So I combined my passion for birding and photography with the hope of spreading awareness about the importance of preserving the natural habitat of migratory birds and brought out my book with my collection of photographs. I present to you my project ""The migratory birds of Hyderabad - my photographic journey."""
