Retreat And Day With A Purpose

OVERVIEW FOR ALL GRADES

St. Catherine’s High School has a long standing tradition of taking time to build community within our class by doing yearly retreats focused on the Dominican Pillars of study, prayer, service (ministry), and community. Another beloved tradition we have here at St. Catherine’s is our focus on caring for others in our community by going out of the school building and volunteering. This day of service is called A Day With A Purpose. Please remember that this is a mandatory event for all students. Seniors must attend if they plan on walking at graduation.

On Wednesday, May 24th, all grade levels will be either doing their Retreat or A Day With A Purpose. ALL STUDENTS HAD A PERMISSION SLIP FILLED OUT ONLINE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. THANK YOU FOR SIGNING THEM!

All students will be receiving FREE lunch and breakfast for their retreat/day with a purpose.

What to Bring? Students should bring their Yondr Pouch and a water bottle to school. Please leave your backpacks, iPads, headphones, etc. at home.

Freshman and Sophomores: Day With A Purpose

FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES (7:15am to 2:15pm) - MEET IN AUDITORIUM

Freshman and Sophomores will be doing A Day With A Purpose where they will go out into the community and do good works. The day will begin with a prayer service to center ourselves and answer the question, “How will our service impact others?”. I am so very excited to see pictures and hear about all they will be doing to help others in the Racine community.

All Freshmen and Sophomores should plan on wearing: Day with A Purpose T-Shirt (handed out at lunch on Tuesday), pants (no sleep pants, no leggings, no holes or rips), and closed toe tennis shoes. Should a student arrive out of dress code, they will be advised to change or call a parent for a change of clothes. All locations have asked that students wear closed toe shoes (aka: tennis shoes)

We will be helping at many locations including but not limited to: Hope Safe House, Woof Gang Rescue, St. Monica's Senior Living, Salvation Army, HOPES Center, Habitat for Humanity, Hospitality Center, Riverbend Nature Center, Racine Zoo, Kingdom Builders, Ridgewood Care Center, HALO, Veterans Outreach, Riverbend Nature Center, Ridgewood Care Center, and supporting parishes. Locations are assigned randomly and cannot be requested as we will be going out and doing good all around Racine County.

Juniors: Retreat Day

JUNIORS (5am to 1pm) - MEET AT SIENA RETREAT CENTER 5637 Erie St, Racine, WI 53402

The Junior class will be going on their retreat focusing on the Dominican pillar of PRAYER. This retreat would not be possible without the hard work of Ms. Prideaux. Please remember to thank her, showing your appreciation for organizing and running your retreat. Juniors will be going to Siena Retreat Center for their retreat. Juniors have always had what is called a sunrise retreat where they come together early in the morning and prayerfully watch the sun rise as a group. Our Dominican Pillar for the retreat is Prayer. Throughout the day we will be playing games, participating in mass, making posters, and doing a letter activity.

All Juniors should plan on wearing comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in. Please wear a T-Shirt (must be school appropriate), pants (no sleep pants, no leggings, no holes or rips), and closed toed tennis shoes. Should a student arrive out of dress code, they will be advised to change or call a parent for a change of clothes. Students are required to wear tennis shoes to this retreat as you will be very active.

Please note the START AND END TIME. Families are responsible for dropping off and picking up students from the Retreat.

Seniors: Retreat Day

SENIORS (7:15am to 2:30-2:45pm) - MEET IN CAFETERIA

The Senior class will be going on their retreat focusing on the Dominican pillar of SERVICE. This retreat would not be possible without the hard work of OB and Ms. Mielcarek. Please remember to thank them, showing your appreciation for organizing and running your retreat. We will be at Wonderland Camp in Lake Geneva for our retreat. The Pillar of Service means: Creating a civically engaged environment that forms conscious world citizens who appreciate the dignity of every individual, driven by both word and deed.

All Seniors should plan on wearing comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in. Please wear a T-Shirt (must be school appropriate), pants (no sleep pants, no leggings, no holes or rips), and closed toed tennis shoes. Should a student arrive out of dress code, they will be advised to change or call a parent for a change of clothes.

Please note the return time: STUDENTS SHOULD BE PICKED UP AT 2:30-2:45PM HERE AT SCHOOL. In addition to the online permission slip, each student will need a waiver filled out for them to participate in the activities (link). Please email the completed waiver to Mrs. Prideaux or Mrs. Dahlgren, turn it in at the front office, or drop it off at the campus ministry office in room 219A.

Dominican Youth Conference

The Dominican Youth Movement USA (DYMUSA) is a nationwide non-profit organization connecting youth/young adults to the Dominican Order’s tradition of preaching with their own call to preach. In 2015 DYMUSA brought together five different programs engaging young people of high school age through their young adult years – unifying their support and promoting their collective social impact.

The theme of the conference has remained the same: each of us is called to preach the Gospel in our own unique way.  During the six-day conference, Dominicans (members of the Order of Preachers) highlight the charism of preaching as it has been practiced from the earliest days of the Order to the present. Participants meet many Dominicans who preach the Gospel in a variety of settings. Participants also have the opportunity to visit service sites where they can “put their preaching into action.”

Each day begins and ends with a prayer/ritual prepared by the participants with the assistance of Dominican liturgists. At the closing Eucharistic celebration, school teams share ways that they can take the message of the conference back to their school communities.

At the end of the conference, students are challenged with the creation of an action plan for the upcoming school year. This plan is the vehicle for sharing what they have learned at the conference to their college campuses. With the Dominican Charism firmly planted in mind, body, and spirit – the “Holy Preaching” continues!

Overnight conference out of state with Mrs. Dahlgren. Would love to bring 4 students with me to Michigan where we will be having a retreat with other high school students from around the world. This is only for high schools who follow the Dominican way as we do. Email Mrs. Dahlgren if you are interested in coming. Note there is a cost of $475 for the week.
