The purpose of a health and safety and risk assessments is not to stop you from carrying out any fieldwork you want to do. It is to minimize any risks or hazards that you may encounter by putting control measures in place. Risk assessments are a written record of you stopping and thinking before you carry out any fieldwork.
All students are given access to the Blackboard Health and Safety site. This is where all the documentation, forms and guidance is located.
To access the Health and Safety blackboard site, first log into the University website and open Blackboard. Click on the courses tab on the left hand side, and then scroll down to the course called 'JMC Health & Safety (Academic Year 2024-2025).' Please ensure that the academic year is the current academic year.
Please note that if you can't see the correct Health and Safety folder, you need select the current courses drop down menu at the top of the screen.
It is mandatory for students to go through the following steps before doing practical work and loaning equipment from the media store and conducting practical fieldwork:
Read and acknowledge the Fieldwork Risk Assessment, and completing the confirmation test
Read and acknowledge the Use of Media Room Risk Assessment, and completing the confirmation test
Read and acknowledge the H&S Standard
Watch the H&S guidelines video and complete the quiz
Read the Resilience and Wellbeing resources
Watch the "Building Resilience Skills" video and complete the quiz
When you have completed all these steps, the following section will unlock that allows you to fill out a form to request media store access, which then allows you to get set up on Connect2.
