Within the first few weeks of arriving at the University, you will be allocated and meet with an academic tutor. This is a member of academic staff in your department who is there to provide academic support and guidance throughout the course of your degree.
Your academic tutor is likely to be the same person throughout your degree, although this may change if your academic tutor goes on research leave. If this occurs, your department will allocate you a replacement academic tutor.
Please see this page for more details on how the Academic Tutoring system works.
Your academic tutor will organise to meet you at least once a Semester during your time at University. They may send you a quick survey to complete or ask you to reflect on your Semester so far before you meet to help you both to get the most out of the tutorial.
However, if you are experiencing difficulties, please contact journalism@sheffield.ac.uk and/or contact your academic tutor, as we want to help you to identify ways to help resolve the problem.
You can email your academic tutor to ask for an appointment or visit your academic tutor during their office hours.
Remember, your academic tutor is not just there to help resolve issues but to support you in reaching your full potential and making the most out of your experience here so be proactive and make the most of your tutorials.
In addition to your academic tutor, the School of Journalism, Media and Communication also has a Student Experience Team who can help you to navigate the different types of student support available to you here at the University of Sheffield. You can also contact us if you have questions about processes such as extensions, extenuating circumstances, and taking a leave of absence. To get in touch please contact journalism@sheffield.ac.uk
