The Sheffield Graduate Attributes (SGAs) are a list of 12 attributes, created in collaboration with employers to help you translate what skills and experiences you have learnt/developed throughout your university experience. They are split into 3 categories: My learning, My impact, and My self. They are a useful way to think about your development and provide a framework for you to think about how you can market yourself when exploring your employability.
To help you make the most of the Sheffield Graduate Attributes, read through each of the attributes and make some notes on these questions:
Which of these do you feel confident with already?
Are there any skills that you enjoy? What careers might help you use these attributes you enjoy?
Which will be your priority to develop throughout your degree/year?
Can you think of examples of where you have shown any of these attributes? This website shows you some examples
Do you feel any are less relevant for you?
Which ones do you think you will develop the most during your degree?
Which ones will you develop outside of your degree?
Which of these may be skills you would want to be using in a future career?
If you aren't sure what career you want to pursue, which of these skills would you like to be using?
Keep referring back to these notes to see how your opinions and experiences change and develop throughout your degree/year
The mySkills questionnaire uses the SGAs as the framework to track your development and help you evaluate your skills and experiences throughout your degree/year. Understanding the SGAs will help you make the most out of your mySkills portfolio and give you a structure to reflect on your personal and professional development.
