Using mySkills is a great way to evaluate, reflect and record your progress throughout your university experience. The portfolio is split between the mySkills Assessment and My Development Experiences. Once you have done the assessment, you can view your mySkills Profile which offers you a chance to explore pathways for development and to prioritise certain skills.
You can access your mySkills questionnaire and portfolio via Career Connect.
Using the Sheffield Graduate Attributes as a framework, the assessment asks you 37 multiple-choice questions (you can save your progress therefore do not need to do it all in one go), where you pick how confident you feel about each statement.
Each time you take the assessment, each skill is rated to clearly show you which ones you are proficient in and which ones you could develop further. By re-taking the questionnaire consistently throughout your time at university, you will be able to chart how your skills and confidence evolve. You can see the progress diagram on the 'My History' tab.
Important to note: Your confidence and skills will evolve and develop throughout your experience at the university. If your confidence fluctuates, then it is not a sign that you are ''getting worse'' at a skill; it may just mean you need to find some experience to help rebuild your confidence. This would be a great opportunity to use the Pathways for each skill to explore how you can develop and feel more confident using these skills
You can use this section to record all of the experiences you gain throughout your university experience. This can be something you use for yourself to remember what you have done and could be used as a live CV.
This section is an effective way to create a live CV or for job applications/Cover Letters. Each entry requires a summary of the experience, identifying the skills you used and a space for self-reflection. It encourages you to use the STAR technique when entering your experiences and you can read the STAR Guide to help understand what it is and why you should use it.
Using the mySkills portfolio, you can reflect on your strengths and where you have room to develop. This can make finding work experiences, activities, societies, and volunteering opportunities to help you develop what you want to. This will really help you make the most of these experiences.
