There should always be Internet available for public use in the Rec-center. From here you can keep in touch with friends and family as well as get daily access to email and important company communications. You are expected to check email regularly throughout the working week.
Please read before questioning others about the Internet at our compound. Misinformation about the subject is to be expected due to limited understanding by the general public about the most basic points of Internet technology.* Nevertheless, the situation isn’t exactly ideal, but it can meet your needs, and it appears to be getting better. One day, fiber-optic services will come to our district but no date has been given as yet.
Shabaka Training cannot take responsibility for your acquisition and maintenance of personal use Internet services at this time, however, we will assist and advise as best we can. Residents are expected to acquire their own Internet service for personal use.
Most of the Internet available to us at the compound will be from wireless telecommunication providers. Broadband ADSL is not presently well supported in our area. Until further notice, we suggest you investigate these wireless solutions from one of the 3 main companies. The best thing about Saudi telcos is the availability of contracts that are easy to cancel and devices that are not locked to one service provider. The competing companies change their offers every few months – so be brave, get in to their offices, take a ticket – sit down, and learn what you need to know.
We suggest Mobily or Zain because Internet coverage at the university and compound is better than STC. Most smart phones can be used as a mini wifi modem hotspot for your laptop or plethora access point solutions can be used.
