Research Log 1: Sharing One SKin
Source 1: In the first article that i read, “Sharing One Skin'' by the Okanagan People, they talk about the difference between the Okanagan People and the people of the new world. They express how the Okanagan people, very people, themselves and how they are tough about the importance of their own beings. They tell us how the people are on with everything around them. From a young age they are taught about the importance of their health. Mentally and physically. Their practices are mainly focused around their beings, spirits, and their thoughts/feelings.
Source 2: When i read this article i was amazed at how i realized that most of the native peoples and peoples of origin have similar beliefs and practices. For example the being one with everything around you. What you feel and think on the inside is what you'll manifest on the outside with your surroundings. These were also the same things I was also taught growing up and are still being taught these things till this day. I really made that connection with the article because it really captured what it was like growing up with a traditional family. Once you really get out into the real world you start to see the difference in the people. Really noticing what they were taught as a kid and how it shows down the road.

Research Log 1: Native American Identity
Source 1: This article talks about the many struggles of native american culture in an urban setting and how it is starting to take over the original culture of the native peoples. How many of the new up and coming generations are being pulled into the ways of the “white man”. Many of which are forgetting about their own peoples ways. It referred back to earlier times when urbanization was still something new to the native peoples and how the younger generations were starting to get involved with white culture and what it was doing to the people. How the changes were effective the ways and practices of their own peoples.
Source 2: I feel like this article really speaks many levels. I see this as what our current situation is in today's world. We have come a long way with this and it has really done a number on and still is. We are starting to ditch our own ways and becoming one with the white society. Because of this we are starting to lose sight of many things that should be important to us. Also weakening our ways as we are becoming more and more influenced. For example, year after year we start to see the numbers of fluent speakers drop dramatically. Not many of the young people today are wanting to keep the culture and tradition alive. I believe this is because of their upbringing. I would say this is a title wave that just keeps on building. When one set of people is strongly influenced by the white culture they begin to lose sight of what's important. So they leave out trying to teach the ones after them about our ways.
