The Effects of Nepotism in Native Communities: Tribal members feeling left out, unfair when it comes to beneficial outcomes, low amount of community opportunities, less motivated students.
Left out, frustrated, isolated, lonely, concerned, confused.
Tribal programs not having any form of application process to tribal members.
Not having any relation to the program leaders, leaving me to not have any information on these types of opportunities.
Affecting my experience and community service, when it comes to scholarships and college applications.
Experiencing the effects, which motivate me to make a change so that other students do not encounter similar situations.

Nepotism in Native Communities happen when members with power favor their relatives more than others.
Tribal members are affected deeply in both the short and long run.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, Jemez Tribal members, family members, friends, and Jemez Springs residents, participated in a raffle I created to illustrate nepotism.
I used my Facebook Bakery page to do a live raffle where participants could experience the effects of Nepotism.
“Your wheel of names raffle was a perfect visual example of how nepotism works. You gave your mom more spots which gave her the opportunity to have better chances at winning. And then you got questioned how many each person got. You even got remarks as to starting an investigation because it was rigged. What can I do tomorrow to help address the problem?
Present and inform tribal and council members about the topic and explain the effects that it has to members.
Create future goals and ways to prevent the practice of it.

To become aware of situations where they may be affected by it and speak up to warn others.
Promise to not practice Nepotism in any situation.

Attend sessions/events about Nepotism (If any).
Notice the practices and speak up to others who may be practicing it.
End the practice of nepotism if possible.
As Armstrong tells about the differences between the Okanagan tribe and a dominant society, she introduces us to the idea of identity. Armstrong tells about her experiences with her cultures and the outside world making her able to strengthen her thoughts with psychology, personal experience and examples. Throughout the text, she also explains how introductions and cultures have a huge impact on our identity. She mentions cultural practices and beliefs that have been successful and practiced over years, that lead to identity. For example, she addresses topics such as spirits, the four main capacities, and communities of the heart.

Throughout the article, it mentions many terms that apply to the way a Native American might identify themselves and how Native Americans are now being affected. These terms were either, American Indian, Native American, Certificate of Indian Blood, Tribal enrollment, white privilege, etc. For example, the text explains to us that Native Americans now live a very similar style as a white man would, like getting educated in the white school system. In addition, it was also explained as to how we are identified or classified without giving us the opportunity to decide on how we would like to be identified. Within the text, it gives the reader many issues such as racial attitudes that influence how Native Americans are identified.
Native American students in higher education such as college and above, are very low. Throughout high school, there are many different obstacles that Native American students have to overcome, such as a low number of Native American teachers, role models, and poor student-teacher relationships. Students resources have become low in certain locations, leaving students to either drop out or have difficulty with school. One partnership between a tribal community and a community college, has given 24 students the opportunity to receive certificates or degrees within the nursing career. Out of the 24 students, 4 were able to receive either one. Although, the partnership came with problems such as having an administration approve of ideas and plans before making one thing happen. But by working and approving, the partnership was able to create their dreams, their realties.

Authenticity, honesty, relentless, and reasoned optimism are the ingredients of leadership. When being a leader, the best way to perform and act is by being honest and not being afraid to mention that you don't know. A leader’s word, actions, tone, and stance can have a huge affect on people and their emotions. Throughout COVID-19 we have seen world leaders address the pandemic and explain their way of resolving and changing lifestyles. For example, Queen Elizabeth spoke to her people while being calm and dignified. Allowing leaders and leadership roles to release situations when they are able to be released are one of the ways to look into the future.
As the article begins, we are notified with the definition of what Nepotism means. We are also given examples in which it would be practiced or considered. The example stated in the article was during a job process. We are also informed about the different policies that companies and jobs may have that are against nepotism. These are called anti-nepotism policies. We are also informed that family owned businesses are more likely to practice nepotism than any other non-family owned business. The main idea to this article was the experiment that was performed, in order to receive the best results when it comes to the hiring process. We are also given sections like procedure and hypothetical to deeply evaluate and look at how they are racing the data. They addressed certain situations and also reported data that support their experiment, while listing future recommendations.

In this article, we are put in a situation where we are reading about an experiment and data within Italy and the United Kingdom. They also stated the main way in which they are trying to measure and record Nepotism. This based the data of people's last names within the certain company. If the percentage of the last names was higher than the average percentage that should be in the company, it would be classified as nepotism. They also addressed how there are some factors that may affect their results. These factors would be how one may get their last name or the high amount of specific names. In addition, they also looked at how one may develop their own dreams or their jobs.
Within the article, the reader is explained about the rules within Native American cultures. The article expresses kinship rules such as ending all prayers with the correct Native American term. Most importantly, the article starts off as introducing the meaning of Kinship and how it works within Native American communities. Another key idea within the text would be how colonization and the change in the world affected Native Communities, leading to nepotism and favoritism. Lastly, the article states that the best way to reverse these practices would be to return back to the old ways and understand the importance of kinship.

Throughout this article, we are told that many of the tribal members within tribes are turned away and told to work outside of the tribe. This is one of the effects that are caused by the B.I.A., which is the Bureau of Indian Affairs. An example of the people being pushed away are the ones who had originally planned to return home to help. These specific action has led many people to believe that Nepotism is the main reason why this is happening. During recent and past years, the majority of the B.I.A employees have now been members of tribal communities in which they are working. Lastly, many people have seen nepotism practiced and do not know what to do in certain situations.
