In this Passage “Sharing One Skin:The Okanagan Community” by Jeannette Armstrong, This Article tells the author Jeannette who is from the Okanagan Tribe, located in British Columbia. The Okanagan doesn’t live alongside the river like the other tribes do, Her mother is from the Kettle Tribe, and her father is from Okanagan as she is mostly associated with her father's side of the family. Jeannette then explains her feelings of what it means to be from there and how their traditional ways make them of who they are, She then explains different meanings, of how one word can mean so much by having a deeper meaning to what it actually is. Jeannette then comes to the conclusion of how their communities play an important role of life and even the Language they speak.
In the Essay “ Native American Identity” by Perry G. Horse, explains in this article how change is coming, and how things are changing in Native Americans or American Indians society. He then talks about “someday we are gonna become like the white people”, American Indians younger generations are choosing to not speak their Native Language but rather speak the English Language. Some of the changes are having to do with our diet like from our Traditional Foods to package products. Perry G. Horse Grandmother says “ we are mimicking their ways like we are educated into schooling, we speak and write like them, and even perform their dance and music” Perry then talks about if it is harmful or if it matters with being called “Native American” or “American Indian”?
