Dear Parents and Students:
I invite your family to take time to read and understand the material in the Seymour High School Program of Studies. This publication will assist you in making decisions that will help you attain a diploma and prepare for post-high school life. It outlines courses needed to meet graduation requirements and provides information on the content and prerequisite skills/knowledge critical to academic success in these various courses.
I encourage you to review these course offerings together and to discuss available options in the context of the student’s abilities, interests, and aspirations. You should develop a thoughtful program of studies which provides, over the course of your high school career, a range of work that properly challenges you. It should create a base that is broad enough to increase your options for post-secondary study and employment. Please take the opportunity to examine this document and begin to shape a plan for the upcoming year and the rest of your high school career.
College admission is usually determined by universities using course grades and difficulty, S.A.T scores, extracurricular involvement, and teacher recommendations as criteria. Since the academic criteria are directly affected by the level of difficulty and number of courses a student chooses, careful selection is vital.
This publication is just one tool that the parent and the student can use in making important academic decisions. Teachers, counselors, and administration are also prepared and willing to help during this endeavor. Please contact the counseling office (203-888-2561, Ext. 1199) to discuss any matters concerning scheduling.
Sincerely,
Paul Lucke
Principal
