HONORS COURSE REQUIREMENTS
A variety of criteria including performance level on standardized testing, content specific grades and teacher recommendations are utilized in determining a student’s ability level.
Each subject area (English, History, Math, and Science) will be considered separately. Students may take one or more Honors level courses if the qualifying criteria is met.
To qualify to take an Honors level course, students must have:
Grade 10-11-12
Students may take Honors level courses in areas where they:
Have earned an A- average in the subject area, or be ranked in the 70th percentile or the student achieved a benchmark on the PSAT.
The subject teacher recommends the Honors level.
The School Counselor recommends the Honors level.
Once placed into an honors course, students must maintain an average of 80 or above to continue placement the following school year.
Incoming 9th Grade Students must meet all of the following criteria to be placed in an Honors course.
Students must be enrolled in Algebra I in 8th grade to take Geometry Honors in 9th grade.
Students must maintain a 90 (A-) average in the subject area, or be ranked in the 70th percentile or above on the MAP assessments in reading or mathematics or the student achieved a benchmark on the 8/9 PSAT.
The 8th-grade subject teacher recommends Honors level
The 8th Grade School Counselor recommends Honors level for each course
