Seymour Police, Seymour Ambulance and Seymour Fire along with Post University are offering a several unique programs for Seymour High School Students.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program
Seymour High School is one of a few public high schools in Connecticut that offer classes during the day to prepare for students to take their certification assessments to become an EMT. An interview process occurs in January for applicants for the following year. Juniors and Seniors can sign up for the coursework which includes the class and a lab period. In some instances Seymour Ambulance assists in instruction in the classroom and provides our ride along hours necessary to become certified EMT's in the State of Connecticut. Several former students are currently employed as EMT both in town and surrounding departments. While taking the EMT coursework students may also qualify for UCONN credit for the EMT course as well as Medical Terminology. Students are also encouraged to take our Introduction to Allied Health UCONN course as well as a rigorous course load in science including AP Biology and Chemistry and Human Physiology and Disease. Optimally students will plan ahead during their 9th or 10th grade to take the EMT courses in 11th or 12th grade because it is a 2 credit course and will require two teaching periods.
All students who take any of the UCONN ECE Courses are required to apply to the ECE program and will incur an application cost payable to UCONN.
