2024 Grammy Nominations

By: Jennetta Saul

Music has become more prominent and diverse throughout the years. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards illustrates this. On November 10th of this year, the list of nominees was announced. Three new categories; Best Pop Dance Recording, Best African Music Performance, and Best Alternative Jazz Album, were added to the list. In addition to these new categories, already existing fields such as producer of the year and songwriter of the year will be moved into the general field.

Women are becoming commended more and more in the music industry. This year’s most nominated artists justify this. If you have ever heard the songs, “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” or “Shirt,” then you know who has the most nominations. That’s right, SZA! With a total of nine nominations, she really set the bar. “I think that it's so important that black female artists are getting recognition,” says Social Studies teacher Mr. Miranda, also adding, “She totally changed the R&B genre for the better and her music relates to so many different types of people, which in my opinion, makes her a great candidate for these awards.” Following her in most nominations are Phoebe Bridgers and Victoria Monet with seven.

As the upcoming ceremony approaches more people are waiting in anticipation to see who wins. Student Bianca Lamour says, “I look forward to the Grammys, I watch it every year with my mom.” The Grammys underwent some creative changes this year! Be sure that on February 4th, 2024, you tune in and watch this spectacular night unfold.
