The U.S Open takes place in New York City every year, The 2022 US Open, the 142nd consecutive edition of the tournament, took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The U.S Open is a hard-court tennis tournament, with some of the best tennis stars in the world coming to play.

The tournament consists of five primary championships: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles. A lot of exciting things took place during the U.S open that everyone should hear about.

Firstly, the retirement of one of the most famous female and all-around tennis players in history, Serena Williams. Serena, within her 27-year tennis career, had 23 Grand Slams, and 4 Olympic Gold medals. She said she had other interests other than tennis, but she was never able to do them because of her diehard passion for tennis. One of her goals is to become a mother again, she wants to start enjoying these things she couldn’t do before. Serena told reporters “There are so many things that I've been wanting to do for so many years and I've had such a passion for tennis for so long that I've never done them.” Serena uses the word “evolving” instead of retiring because she will not be relaxing after playing her last tennis match. Although she might come back to tennis, because of a comment on the Jimmy Fallon show when he Teased her about a possible return to tennis, similar to Tom Brady. She responded by saying “ “Tom Brady started an amazing trend. That’s what I want to say.” This is still a theory though, so there is no way to guarantee. Even though Serena has now retired, she leaves behind a huge and very evident legacy, becoming a role model for woman’s tennis!

Secondly, a legend, Roger Federer a highly honored athlete great at the sport of Tennis for the past 24 years but sadly that changes. After more than 1,500 matches, won 20 Grand Slam titles.  He retires at the sport. Many fans sad after on Sept. 15, 2022 he posted a very heartwarming voice message on twitter. He said he felt that after his knee surgery in 2021 he just wasn’t able to play the same and states that his body just can’t go on anymore.

The defending, men's and womens tournament champions were Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu .
