Tips for Online Church

(and alternative church options)
#digitalmissions

1. Assess your church’s capacity.

Do we have equipment for this? Do we have manpower for this? Do we have technology for this? Does your church even have a social media account?

2. Choose an option suited for you.

Livestream or pre-recorded video? Each has its own advantages. Livestream gives a feeling of being at the moment. Prerecorded video gives you a more polished look.

3. Prioritize quality audio.

Much of the preaching will rely on the voice of the speaker. Make sure audio quality is great. No available dedicated mic? Try recording in a quiet place with no echo.

4. Be aware of copyright for songs you sing.

Social media accounts tend to “screen” the videos posted to check if we are uploading content that belongs to someone else, like music. Sometimes, social media account algorithms mute portions of the worship songs because they think you are uploading someone else’s music. This is not censoring Christianity but protecting our musicians from their hard work.

5. Can’t do either yet?

Consider sending out a study guide/worship guide instead. Have a playlist of songs they can listen to. Publish bible verses they can read, and questions they can reflect and answer.

6. Make the worship experience interactive.

Since it’s on social media, involve your viewers. Ask them to answer questions in the comments. Remember those times in church when the preacher asks a question and we raise our hand in response? Social media interaction can do so much more!

7. Try to make some internal announcements in a separate post.

Since the preaching might be shared with others not part of your community, it is best to make the “main thing” the main thing.

8. Make giving easy.

Provide avenues for church members to quickly and easily give. Explore other legit money transaction services.
