Haridas Nagar road , near Aditya College , Borivali West , Mumbai
CONTEXT
LOCATION
The shrine is located on the corner of fourway. Adjacent to it is a battery shop on the right side and on the left side, there are stall vendors.
The shrine is located among two communities, jain (on the opposite side of the lane) and tamil (resides behind the shrine). The shrine is taken care by the locals living near.
The huge tree near the shrine creates a shaded space, which is occupied by the vendors and locals there. The tree also creates a " a play of hide and seek" with the shrine by completely blocking the view from the side road and slowly reviling it from the other ends.
The shrine and the area around it is ocuppied by the elder during the day time and youths engage there during the night. The vendors attract auto riders during most of the hours creating a "ADDA" around the tree. This also creates an unofficial auto stand here.

COLLAGE
The collage depicts the closeness of the human interaction with shrines. The lighter shade of square indicates that the people living there take care of the shrine whereas the darker shade of tree indicates the stalls and the everyday engagement of people.
SYNTAX
I began with a regular tiled grid used for flooring, which became the foundation for my design iterations. Translating the tiled grid into a dotted grid introduced the concept of space and area. My goal was to clear the footpath occupied by vendors and create more usable space for the occupants. By simultaneously pulling and pushing the grid, I generated additional surfaces, increasing the overall usable area and freeing up space at the ground level.
