A23-6 Â NIRAV CHOUGULE
My shire is located near Devidas Road, close to the Adani Electricity office, in a passage shared by multiple shops. The specific reason for choosing this location was the availability of a water connection, which was essential for the shire's functionalityÂ
PROCESS DESIGNã…¤
The design challenge I faced was working within the constraints of a narrow 2.5-meter-wide footpath adjacent to a busy passage that hosts continuous activity throughout the day. To maximize the limited space and respond to the dynamic environment, I decided to elevate the area, making stairs the central feature. I experimented with different stair modules, incorporating varied riser heights and lengths such as 0.7 meters, 1 meter, and 2.5 meters. These variations allowed for flexibility in both form and function, creating distinct transitions and facilitating movement. Additionally, I designed landings between the stair modules as multifunctional spaces. These landings serve as more than just a break in the ascent; they are utilized as areas for rest, interaction, and even small-scale activities. Each landing offers unique opportunities for engagement, blending seamlessly with the footpath and the surrounding shops while enhancing the pedestrian experience.
COLLAGE
The program was designed to provide a space where people can eat and relax, especially when the shops are closed, creating a quiet environment that can also serve as a meditation space. In college, I explored how shop activities influence movement patterns and how those interactions shape the flow of space
