Levitating Terrace

The project begins by treating the tree canopy as the central spatial element of the site. Rather than focusing on the shopfronts at street level, the design rethinks the largely unused tops of the shops as an opportunity for intervention. The existing level differences along the edges of the site are used as anchoring points from which a structure can extend. From these anchors, the project proposes a bridge that spans from one edge of the site to the other, moving across and through the tree canopy. In doing so, the intervention not only connects two sides of the site but also establishes a close interaction with the tree. The spread of the canopy and the shadows it casts become an active part of the spatial experience, shaping movement and atmosphere. The overall intention is to create a condition in which the tree can be encountered more intimately, allowing visitors to engage with its scale, shade, and presence in a new way.
