Cinematography is the art and science of capturing images in the form of light with a camera. The cinematographer has the task of figuring out where to place the camera in relation to the action, and determines the movement (if any) of the camera. These choices elicit different responses from the viewer.
In this exercise, students will tell a story through a video with no dialog. Use each of the following shots to support the following emotions in your story: detachment, intimacy, tension, conflict, curiosity, urgency, superiority, and inferiority.

-Long Shot

-Close Up
-Extreme Close up (Generally okay to cut off the top of the head — never the chin!)
-High Angle (Bird’s Eye)
-Low Angle (Worm’s Eye)
-OTS (Over the Shoulder)
-POV (Point of View)
-Zoom
-Pan
-Tilt
-Tracking Shots (leading, following and lateral)
-Dutch Angle (tilted horizon)
-Silhouette
Please be sure to fill out the Scavenger Hunt Proposal and equipment Checkout Form prior to shooting. Under no circumstances are you allowed to disrupt other classes or use students from other classes in your video. A violation of this may result in losing your outside of the class video shooting privileges.
You will be shooting the video in groups of 4 and editing in groups of 2.
Your finished video must be posted to your online portfolio, along with a written reflection that addresses the following:
What is your favorite thing about the finished product?
What would you change about the finished product?
What was your role(s) in the creation of this video?
How would you assess your group on collaboration?
What did you learn in the process of making this video?
