THE REMAKE PROJECT
Group Video
This video assignment is your first “feature” film. For this film you will be working in groups (no larger than 4) with your classmates to recreate a scene from a popular film (or possibly a fictional television show). NO GUNS, NO VIOLENCE, NO DEPICTED DRUG USE, NO PROFANITY. I will pick a scene for you if you can't find a school appropriate one on your own.
Process:
1. Each group picks a movie scene (PG-13, PG, or G only) of their choice to remake. Keep in mind -- the scene must be created here at school and needs to be 2-5 minutes in length. You will be trying to recreate every shot as closely as possible: the setting, lighting, costumes, camera angles, actions, dialogue, and content. The content of the scene must also be school appropriate and approved by Mr. Rosskopf.
2. Before recording the scene, you will participate in a pre-production process. For this project, that will be taking screenshots of each shot, noting the running time, and transcribing the dialog and noting any camera movement (See below for example). Upload the pre-production plan to your portfolio and hare the link using the form below.
3. Groups will then film their scene somewhere on campus, with a proper Location Agreement approved by Mr. Rosskopf and appropriate school personnel.
4. The scene will then be edited in the Video/Film classroom. You may use the Title Screen, music and SFX from the original scene.
Grading:
Do the edits match up?
Are the camera shots and movement the same?
Is the lighting similar?
Does the dialog match up?
Does the sound design match up?
Is the emotion portrayed by the actors similar?
