Desirée Harguess began teaching Health Education for Older Adults in the Emeritus program in Spring 2025, and in Fall 2025, she also began working with the Brain Fitness Program. She has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and has been working as a licensed physical therapist in San Diego since 2017. Her clinical training included graduate courses in physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, ergonomics, geriatrics, neuroscience, and neuromuscular rehabilitation. While earning a Master's degree in Kinesiology, she became a certified group fitness instructor and taught fitness/wellness classes for several years at the University of Texas, where she also managed an oral history project for the 1968 U.S. Olympic Team. Earlier in her higher education journey, she had training in anthropology, psychology, sociology, and management.
