Abstract

The study was conducted to prove if grit has a significant relationship to openness and conscientiousness which is a part of Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (OCEAN). Using random sampling technique, respondents are composed of 100 selected first year students from St. Dominic College of Asia. The Grit Scale is a 12-item scale that is a self-report measure of gritty. International Personality Item Pool Scale (IPIP) is a 20-item measuring the openness and conscientiousness level. The results showed that grit is related to openness and conscientiousness. It resulted with the computed value of Pearson-r, which is - 514 with its associated probability value of .000, which is less than the critical value of .05. This shows that there is a significant relationship between grit to openness and conscientiousness.
